Education and Honors

Bud attended Wake Forest University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in English with a minor in Chemistry. While at Wake Forest, Bud was very active in student life serving as President of his Fraternity, an Officer of the Interfraternity Counsel, the President’s Alcohol Task Force and the Wake Forest Jazz Band. He also served as a student intern for ABC News’ Sam Donaldson during the 1988 Presidential Candidate’s Debate held on the Wake Forest campus.

While attending the University of South Carolina for Law School, Bud clerked for the South Carolina Death Penalty Resource Center and Speights & Runyan before receiving his degree in 1992.

Professional Activities and Experience

Mr. Fairey was admitted to practice in 1992 by the State of South Carolina, in addition to practice in the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.  Bud has been an attorney at Speights & Runyan since 1992. He is licensed to practice and has appeared in Magistrate, Probate, Circuit and Appellate Courts in South Carolina, the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina and the United States Appellate Court for the Fourth Circuit. He has also appeared in the Courts of Kentucky, Connecticut, Wisconsin, California, North Carolina, Alabama and Missouri. His practice is focused on class actions and litigation involving asbestos, chemical contamination and exposures, wrongful terminations, computer software development, as well as other general litigation matters.

Personal History

Bud Fairey was born in Statesville, North Carolina on November 5, 1967.  Bud is a member and deacon of Lawtonville Baptist Church, the American Bar Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the South Carolina Bar, the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association and the Hampton County Bar Association. He is married to Melanie Hanna Fairey and has one daughter, Caroline, and one son, Kennedy.
